Bear with me!

Ok, I get bored with the same ole thing, day after day. And playing on the computer is SO much more fun than Housework, or Canning the kajillion plums I have sitting in the carport (now that I moved the source of my allergies OUT of the house and OFF of the dining table)!

So, I am playing with the background and header, here on the family Blog!! Please, bear with me. I'll find some thing I like, I think. I am trying to figure out how to make the posts scroll UNDER the side embellishments (the ribbon bows). And, perhaps, leave the sidebar (where the labels and links are) over the embellishments-leaving it 'unscrolling'. Anyway, I'll work on it and play around some more.

Come back often and check out the changes! (This is easier than coloring my hair every other day! Right?!) :)

OKTOBERFEST

I know, it's still September, but the Ruby Mountain Symphony does their Oktoberfest celebration now! We have never been before, as participants or as spectators, but this year our Dance Studio was invited to perform!

Sophie's Pre-Clogging class performed the Chicken Dance! They performed and taught the other kids, it was VERY cute!! And, as a THANKS for dancing, each of the little girls got a Wonderful, SQUEAKY chicken!!

Katy's class performed the "Lonely Goat Herd" from the Sound of Music! They only had 4 weeks (4-45 minutes classes) to learn this dance. And I must say, they did pretty good for that short of time! Very good!!

Soccer Season is here!

Elko's AYSO Fall Season has begun! Because of our climate-AYSO plays 8 weeks in the fall and 8 weeks in the spring. We usually have 3 weeks each season of Extremely COLD weather, 50% of the time in the SNOW!!!

And we are going, going, going, going!

Denny, CrAzY man that he is: Coaching U6 Girls-Sophie's team 6-5 year old little girls;

It has been a few years, since we've watched the little ones. It is so funny watching them move in a tight little pack, from one end of the field to the other, all huddled around the soccer ball! And it doesn't matter whose goal net it is, if you kicked the ball and made it in! Yeah!!

Assitant Coaching U8 Boys-Ben's team at 8-6/7 year olds, over half of the team is still in the 'flying airplanes' stage! Or, occassionally, they prefer to play 'Rock-Paper-Scissors' during the game!!

Assistant Coaching U10 Boys-Asa's team, although since Asa is trying basketball this season, they have not made it to very many practices, but they DO make it to the soccer games!

And, one more! Assistant Coaching U12 Girls-Katy's team!

Now, since we did the competition team this summer, it was presumed by some, that Denny & Kevin (the Head Coach) would try to 'stack' their regular, recreational soccer team with the competition players. The players that improved their skills 100% over the summer. So, they refused our offer to help coordinate the age group-find coaches, sort the players onto the teams, etc...

Well, we got an AWESOME team, anyway!! Probably FAR better than we would have if WE had sorted the teams-we usually give ourselved the newer players! We have only 4 of our competition players, the rest of our team has stepped right up and done superb! We are undefeated 3/0 at present. Our First game was against a co-ed team that usually runs right over our players (at least they had in the past!) We Stomped them!!!

And, we are signed up to attend an AYSO tournament in Winnemucca, NV, with our reacreational team-mind you, and it looks pretty good that the team will win!

WoooooHooooO!

Basketball-are we surprised?!

Of course, Denny's whole family has played basketball, for generations! Now, Asa's carrying on. Asa has been practicing for the past 2 weeks, and this evening was his first game!

The basketball program is run by PAL (Police Athletic League), and the 3rd/4th grade league does not keep score or any type of stats. They just learn to play the game! So, I couldn't tell you what the score was, although I can say that our players need to practice the actual shots!

But it was a lot of fun watching these 8-9 year old boys running up and down the court, LOTS of travelling, some dribbling, and more than expected shots at the basket! Asa is very good at defending. And he seems to LOVE guarding the other team's players!

First Day of School

School started on August 18, 2008. Katy is in the 6th Grade and attends the remodelled JR High, now the intermediate school Flagview. Asa is in 3rd Grade, Ben is in 2nd Grade, and Sophie started Kindergarten-all three of them attend Northside School. Can you believe it?!
OUR SUMMER!
June flew by from all of the soccer practices, 3 nights a week. July flew by from travelling to Utah-Murray, Orem, and Park City every other weekend!

Denny and Kevin M. gathered up the girls (10-11 yo), started drilling into them the positions, and trying to condition them. They were ALL typical 10-11 yo Girls-they already KNEW everything!

Our first Tournament was a real Eye Opener! It was HOT (100+ degrees!) the teams we were playing (Utah Teams) play together year round. Our team was new, the girls have played soccer for a few years, but only on AYSO recreational teams (meaning the play is NOT competitive)! This first tourney, the girls learned ALL about Contact! Shoulders, elbows, cutting another player off!
By our Last Tournament, the girls had really improved! The score at the end of the game was not such a HUGE gap and their SKILLS were awesome! And we ALL had a GREAT TIME!!

We hope to continue competing through out the fall and winter! Although, that means more travelling!!
